When planning your Florida getaway, it’s easy to get caught up in the buzz of big cities or coastlines. But tucked away in the heart of Central Florida lies our hidden gem; Downtown Sebring is perfect for travelers seeking charm, history, and a laid back pace.
Whether you’re road-tripping across the Sunshine State or looking for a refreshing weekend escape, Downtown Sebring offers the perfect, centrally located home base. And the best part? Everything you need is just steps away.
Walkable, Welcoming, and Wonderfully Vintage
There is something magical about parking your car and not needing it again for the rest of your stay. In Downtown Sebring you will find a walkable, compact historic district centered around the iconic Circle Park; where oak trees shade a charming roundabout filled with shops, cafés, and a surprising amount of local flavor.
From the moment you arrive, you’ll feel the slower pace of life Sebring is famous for. Downtown Sebring’s architecture hints at our early 20th-century roots, and thanks to the recent HGTV Hometown Takeover, the district has a new burst of energy that honors our history. The makeover helped refresh nearly every building on the circle, encouraged new businesses to pop up, and amplified our downtown’s warm charm.
Stay in Style
First things first, you need a place to kick off your shoes. If you’re staying the night (and you really should if you want to experience Sebring fully), The Roanoke Hotel or downtown boutique AirBnB’s will be your ideal home base. The historic Roanoke is a boutique hotel that blends vintage character with modern comfort and is located right in the heart of downtown.
If they are fully booked, there’s other great spots in Downtown Sebring to check out on AirBnB. Whether you’re in town for a wedding, a quick getaway, or a longer stay to explore the region, downtown Sebring offers plenty of cozy, centrally located places to rest your head; all just steps from food, fun, and local flair.
Dine, Sip, and Stroll
Start your day with brunch at Faded Bistro & Beer Garden, a hidden oasis just off the Circle on N Ridgewood. Known for its relaxed vibe, eclectic menu, and live music, Faded is equally great for a casual brunch or a laid-back dinner under the stars.
If you’re craving something classic and cold, Gavaghans Irish Pub; located right beneath The Roanoke; is the go-to neighborhood pub. Pop in for a hearty plate of fish and chips or a Guinness while catching some live music or a game. It’s the kind of place where locals and visitors feel equally at home.
Later, swing by the Circle Park Pop-Up Market if your visit lines up. These community-driven vendor events transform Circle Park into a bustling hub of local handmade goods, live music, and local artisans. It is a great way to get a real taste of Sebring’s creative scene.
Shop Local and Love It
One of the best parts of Downtown Sebring? The shopping. Independent boutiques and quirky local stores line the circle and surrounding streets. Some must-visits include:
- Sebring Soap Company: Handcrafted soaps, candles, and skincare products made locally with love. The store was featured in HGTV’s Home Town Takeover, but has since moved to another location in downtown Sebring. You can snag some Sebring merchandise here too!
- Trendz R Us: A stylish boutique owned by sisters who grew up in Sebring, right off the Circle. Perfect for clothing, accessories, and unique gift-worthy finds.
- Bare Wood Market: Part home décor shop, part boutique… all charm.
- Hobby Hill Design: Whether you want to brighten your hotel room, take home a hydroponic plant or find some local merch, this florist and gift shop is full of surprises.
- Dino’s Collectibles: A haven for the nerds (we say this lovingly), Dino’s is packed with pop culture toys, games, cards, and nostalgic treasures right on the Circle!
- Habitat for Humanity ReStore: Fun for thrifters, DIYers, and anyone who loves the thrill of a good find… and giving back to the community!
With every stop, you’ll find the kind of genuine service and hospitality that only comes from a locally owned (southern) business. It’s a huge part of what makes Sebring special.
Stop in and Learn Something!
Our city was founded in 1912, and there’s a lot of cool Florida history to learn while you’re visiting. We have multiple museums and informational stops right in the heart of downtown Sebring for you to check out!
Greater Sebring Chamber of Commerce: A great place to stop, Monday through Friday for information about Sebring and resources on our local business community.
Attached to the Chamber of Commerce, you will find the historic Circle Theatre! Stop in to take a peek at the renovated space, especially if you saw the renovation by Ben and Erin Napier on HGTV’s Home Town Takeover! Even better… plan your visit around a show or event at the historic Circle Theatre!
Children’s Museum of the Highlands: Did you bring the kiddos (or grandkids?) on your trip to Sebring? You HAVE to stop in our local Children’s Museum for some good, air conditioned sit down time while the kids have a blast exploring their imaginations. You got that right; Sebring is fun for all ages!
Highlands Art League: Love all things art? Get a glimpse into our local art community by stopping by the Highlands Art League off of Lakeview Drive in Downtown Sebring. We may be biased, but we think our local artists are top notch!
Florida Medal of Honor Memorial: Sebring honors our veterans and encourages our visitors to check out our memorial for local Medal of Honor recipients. We have a rich history and honor for our veterans.
For example, did you know that Major Thomas McGuire was a Sebring High School graduate before serving and ultimately giving his life serving in World War 2? McGuire is known for being one of the best airmen in US Military history. You can learn about many individuals who fought for our freedoms right down the road from Circle Park in downtown Sebring.
Charles F. Weigle House Museum: Charles Weigle was a prominent Christian evangelist and hymn writer was born in Lafayette, Indiana. He was a close personal friend of George E. Sebring Jr., founder of our wonderful city. In 1922 he build his historical home at 1989 Lakeview Drive in Sebring, in what is now our art district.
We recommend visiting this museum, the nearby Highlands Art League, and then enjoying lunch down on the Sebring Pier. No better way to take in the view of Lake Jackson; with that extra Sebring knowledge and historical appreciation!
With all that said, there is SO much history to take in here in Sebring that goes beyond our downtown district. Stay tuned and check our blog from time to time for more posts on must see places all around Sebring! We promise you one visit isn’t enough; so we guess you’ll just have to keep coming back!
